Why Create the Savannah Area Good Corporate Citizen Project?

  1. We wanted to create a resource to encourage things we couldn’t easily and traditionally incentivize. If a meaningful incentive couldn’t be created, we wanted to build a resource where users would be just a couple clicks away from the resource, contact or idea they need, making it easier for companies to increase their efforts related to good corporate citizenship.

  2. There are important community conversations happening around diversity, equity and inclusion, living wage, etc. This website is a way that we as economic developers and business advocates can positively contribute to the conversations and be a part of the solution.

  3. We want to ensure Savannah is a competitive and attractive market to do business. When companies look to expand their business in Savannah, they are still asking about workforce and infrastructure, but they are adding questions about diversity and inclusion, philanthropy, sustainability and our overall culture and direction as a community. This website is a way to encourage more progress in these areas and capture stories of how our locals are leading the way.

  4. Local companies are requesting this resource. As economic developers and business advocates, it is important to have the resources at hand when companies ask how they can hire more diversely, how they can engage with the school system, etc. And while we tailor our responses for each client, this resource makes it more accessible for quick needs.

  5. A resource for companies new to Savannah. For companies that are new to Savannah, it is important to have a resource where they can connect easier, faster and understand our priorities and culture as a community.

  6. Opportunity for companies to get highlighted in the “Passion to Action” section. Companies, big and small, can get recognition for the great work they are doing. It also provides a platform to get ideas from other local organizations and we always love a little friendly competition and positive peer pressure.

  7. Economic development. Each section highlights research showing benefits to companies when they engage in good corporate citizenship. In the long run, those benefits mean a growing economy, adding more job opportunities and capital investment.

  8. A place to highlight critical community needs. There are many community leaders that want to help, they just don’t know how, or they don’t have the time to figure out where the highest and best use of their time could be spent. Our hope is this website can cut down on the research time needed to engage in these topic areas.
